Month 1
A very crucial one. You need to get adapted to the changes in your body. Going through C Sec means a little extra care and rest , along with taking care of baby. In this month the major task for you is breast feeding. As breast feeding is new not only for you but also for the baby, you need to be calm and patient. Try to latch your baby as much as you can. Do not fall into the trap of top feed as it reduces your milk supply. Surely, top feed is required if you are not producing enough milk for the baby, but mostly it’s not so. It might even take a month or two for your baby to latch properly.
Your partner might feel rejected as all your attention goes to the baby. It is important that you make him understand how his support and positive attitude is needed at this point of time. Sleep deprivation, yes surely a part of few months, till your baby learns to sleep through the nights.
Month 2
In a world where time is calculated by feeds and nappy changes, no wonder, you might feel tired and dispirited. But this is all worth for a sweet lovely smile that you might earn this month from your bundle of joy. It is important that you maintain a bond with your partner and it’s not about being physical always but an emotional attachment is essential.
Month 3
Your baby is becoming more active and interactive. Try talking to your baby with your face close to his as he can identify the face now. Your smile will get broader as you listen to their coos. By now, you would have settled well with the baby. Also, do not compare your baby’s development with others as each baby is different. They achieve their milestones sooner or later.
Month 4
By now the noise of TV shows in your house would have changed to laughter of your baby and jingles of rhymes. You have to be very careful, as they learn to roll over, by this month. They also learn to put everything into their mouth. But thankfully, if you are lucky enough you might get to sleep through the night. (I am still not the lucky one)
Month 5
Prevention is better than cure. It is important to provide safety to your baby especially from falling off from the bed. They can creep well and push the things aside, so you might have to shift down on the floor from your king size bed. Your baby’s communication skills are expanding rapidly. Talk to them, read stories to them. Play games with them.
Month 6
Dads be ready to do push ups with your babies. Excitement with work is going to increase this month as you start to give semi solid to your babies. It is necessary that you go slow as this is very new for the babies and yes be ready for the new surprises; they might start to crawl by this month.
For me the key to carry on these six months has been my husband. To maintain the happiness of the family, it is necessary that both the partners work for it. Plan your household chores accordingly, so that you can give enough time to your baby and each other as well.
